2/8/12

Morgan ate all of her whole wheat toast with jelly and seconds on dried mangoes at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her burrito, about half of her sweet potatoes and a bite of tropical fruit.

Morgan was in 'test the limits' mode for a while this morning.  We did a lot of redirecting, moving kiddos and their toys away from her and reminding her or the rules.  Some of the time that worked and some not.  She finally had a melt down and needed a little break from the group stress.  She did much better after that.  I think sometimes she just gets over stimulated or overwhelmed for some reason and it just escalates.

We played in the back, rooms for longer than usual today because the large group thing wasn't working well today -- too many nit-picky conflicts.  My kiddos all loved playing with the farm legos in one room and the fisher price farm stuff in the other one.  We are going to start splitting into our small groups earlier when the large group isn't working well to try to deter some of the issues.

Morgan and Alayna don't play together much, but today they were in the Lego room.  They were both contributing and assisting in the building of a fence.  Morgan was so excited when they were doing it.  She came over to me twice and said, "We playing making a fence!"

Morgan has been using her words much better over all and we haven't had any biting incidents since the last one I told you about, so that is awesome.  One thing that we have been doing is to not even say the word "bite" or "biting" even when it does happen.  We have just been focusing on "Oh no!  You hurt your friend!  We never hurt others at Gary and Lauralea's."  We have noticed with other words that many times when we say them it actually puts the idea into their head (or at least keeps it fresh there).

2/7/12

Morgan ate all of her prunes and seconds on cinnamon roll at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her hashbrowns, most of her waffle, bites of cantaloupe and a bite of scrambled eggs.

Morgan likes to imitate her two main buddies here, Jadey and Kenzie.  But that is only half of the equation because many times she is the leader and will start doing something and the other two will then imitate her.  It seems like whatever one of those three are doing the other two are either doing also, or will be doing soon.

There was about 15 to 20 minutes today when the couch was lined with girls reading their own individual books.  Morgan was right there in the middle of it, of course.  What made it funny was that most of them were "reading" their books aloud with no one doing the listening.  : )

Morgan told us one cushion of the couch was "my nap mat" and lay down on if for a few seconds.  When she jumped up and was ready to do something else, she first announced, "I not sleep very well!"  Wow!  I don't think I have ever heard a kiddos verbalize that before, even in play.

The kiddos and I had a lot of fun singing songs and being silly for a while today.  We first sang all of the song they requested very exuberantly, then I gave each of them a stuffed animal to put on their heads and see if they could keep it there.  That in itself was fun, but then I put one on my head and started singing "If you're happy and you know it, nod your head".  Of course the animal flew off and they all roared and wanted me to do it "again" and "again" and "AGAIN!"  We had LOTS of fun!

2/6/12

Morgan ate all of her mixed fruit and her Kix cereal at breakfast.  At lunch she ate all of her steamed broccoli and her ham sandwich, about half of her mandarin oranges.

Morgan really was enjoying first exploring then playing with the new toy exchange toys.  She spent time with about everything.  First she was riding on the horses rambunctiously and grinning all over.

Alayna started a trend this morning.  She asked for one of the dolls to be dressed, then wrapped it up and placed it gently in one of the cowboy hats and started rocking it back and forth like it was either a cradle or an infant seat!  It was really cute.  Morgan and Kenzie thought it looked like a good idea and started imitating her.

Morgan and Kenzie were cheering for Jadey, Alayna and Joslyn as they played and jumped on the climber and mattress.  Morgan cracked me up when she shouted, "Go defense!  Go team!"  Hmmm!  I wonder if yesterday was Superbowl Sunday or something!  : )

Morgan was sitting on (squishing, actually) a little stuffed unicorn that we have out right now.  She first of all was bouncing up and down on it and saying "Yee-Haw!" then kind of moved off of it and said, "I fell off horse!"

The farm/ranch legos are out in the back room and they were all very glad to see them out again.  They were really into building with them and also playing with the tractors, animals and people that go with the set!
